Overview
FermenTree is a fermentation-tracking app built by TotalPunch Development, a software company based in the Netherlands (KVK 90576543), and designed around a simple principle: your data belongs to you. FermenTree does not operate a server, does not create user accounts, and does not use third-party analytics or advertising services of any kind. This policy explains exactly what that means in practice.
Who operates FermenTree
FermenTree is developed and published by TotalPunch Development, registered in the Netherlands under KVK number 90576543. TotalPunch Development is the data controller for the purposes of this policy, to the limited extent described below — in practice, almost no data ever reaches us.
Data storage
All fermentation data you create — batches, their lineage, recipes, notes, photos, and tasting history — is stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage frameworks. FermenTree does not transmit this data to any FermenTree-operated server, because no such server exists.
iCloud sync
If you choose to enable iCloud sync, your data is synchronized through Apple's CloudKit, using your own private iCloud account. This sync happens directly between your devices and Apple's iCloud infrastructure. TotalPunch Development has no access to this data — it is stored in your private CloudKit database, invisible to anyone but you and, per Apple's terms, Apple itself.
HomeKit
If you connect a HomeKit temperature sensor to monitor a ferment, that connection happens directly between your device, HomeKit, and FermenTree. Temperature readings are not sent anywhere else, and TotalPunch Development has no visibility into which HomeKit devices you use or the data they produce.
NFC tags
If you use NFC tags with FermenTree, the tags store only a FermenTree app link that opens the corresponding local or iCloud-synced batch record. No personal data is written to or read from the tag itself beyond that link.
Predictions & Apple Intelligence insights
FermenTree estimates how long a fermentation stage will take using your own batch history and, if connected, HomeKit temperature data. When you rate a finished batch, FermenTree can also use Apple Intelligence to surface patterns across your ratings and history — for example, which conditions tend to produce your best results. Both of these run entirely on-device using Apple's on-device machine learning and background processing frameworks. No batch data, ratings, or temperature history is sent to FermenTree, TotalPunch Development, or any third-party AI service, and no internet connection is required for either feature to work.
Analytics, advertising & tracking
FermenTree does not integrate any third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and does not track users across apps or websites. We add no usage tracking of our own, so TotalPunch Development has no way of knowing which batches you make, your lineage, or how you use the app.
Apple's platform separately provides developers with limited, aggregated App Store analytics — such as overall install and session counts across all users, protected by differential privacy — which we cannot opt out of and don't control. If you choose to share diagnostics with app developers under iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may also pass along crash and performance data. Neither of these expose your fermentation data, and both are governed by Apple's own privacy practices, not FermenTree's.
What TotalPunch Development cannot see
- Which batches you make, or your lineage between them
- Which HomeKit devices you own or connect
- Your CloudKit / iCloud data
- Your photos, notes, ratings, or tasting history
- Any Apple Intelligence insights generated on your device
Children's privacy
Because FermenTree collects no data and operates no server, it does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same URL with a revised "last updated" date.
